Difficult Times Lie Ahead, Harry

So I just returned from the cinema, where I experienced a revelation:

It's possible for a Harry Potter movie to be good.

The first three movies (The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban) were all fantastic disappointments. They were the essence of mediocrity. They were, in short, bleh.

This latest one, however, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has exceeded all of my expectations. It actually stirred up some emotions. It was interesting. A few of the jokes were intelligent, original and, dare I say it, funny?

For instance, I nearly laughed myself out of my seat when that dragon bit off Hermione's legs.

And then she caught fire, and just kept crawling up that hill of ash...and when they rebuilt her body, and told her that she had killed poor Harry, oh, that bloodcurdling scream! "Nooooooo!"

Oops. Spoiler.

For a different movie.

I never chuckled, even once, when poor Ced--

I mean, Monsieur Anonymous died. It touched me like I touch your mom.

Okay. Perhaps not quite like that.

My only real complaint, as of right now, is that they didn't show enough of the other 'champions' during their tests. I would like to actually see how each one handled the situation, perhaps get a better feel for the characters.

Now, the rating I'm about to give is based solely on tonight's experience, and I cannot promise that it is an entirely accurate representation of my attitude towards this movie. after all, everything is more enjoyable in good company. It's quite possible that I'll rent or buy the DVD several weeks from now, and realize that it was the worst of them all.

But for now, I'm giving it an objective 7 out of 10, and a subjective 9 out of 10.

Go out and see it.

And the hormone-ridden, oversexed teenage boy says, "You know how I like it when they walk."

PS:Yes, there are a lot of links in this post. I went a bit crazy. Sorry.

Forty Days and Three Hours

Well today's been an interesting experience.

I'm sitting here at one of the 'Quick Zip Kiosks' at UA, waiting for a ride. At 6:34.

My last class was at 4:30.

So why am I still here, you ask? Well I'll tell you.

Phone repairs.

I called my parents for a ride at 1:00. I couldn't get through, for some reason. I had to get to class, and Alex had to get to work, so he took his phone and said he'd keep calling them for me, tell them to meet me at 4:30.

4:30 rolls around, and no one's there. Not overly concerning, as my parents are often late picking me up.

5:00. Still no ride. I call home, collect. Busy signal.

5:30. Maybe Alex accidently gave them the wrong time? Said 5:30 instead of 4? Guess NOT.
I call home about four more times, still busy.

6:00. I keep calling home, over and over and over, in the hopes that SOMEONE will realize that they need to HANG UP THE PHONE.

6:30. I figure out how to bypass the security programs to sign into AIM on the kiosk. Talk to Jake. He says my phon'es disconnected, and his mom can give me a ride home, whenever she's done with this meeting.

So much for practice.

So now I'm waiting for Jake's mom to call him, so he can IM me, so I can get home. All because of faulty phone service.

And the fact that I'm a loser with no car, or even license.

Ah, well. No regrets.

And the castaway says, "Crap."

UPDATE:
9:00. Jake tells me his mom is on the way. I walk outside to meet her, and guess who just got there?

My dad.

So I had to wait for Mrs. Bennett to arrive, and tell her that I didn't need a ride, and then listen to my dad make up stories all the way home.

Like how he was searching for me for hours, and did all these other things. But he then said that he didn't even know I wasn't home until 8:00, when he got back from my brothers' b-ball practices. 8:00...hours of searching...pick me up at 9? Something doesn't check out.

Ah, well.

And the castaway, returned home, says, "Crap!"

Fill yer gut Vs. Blood n' guts...

Two reviews tonight, though I plan on keeping them both rather short. It's late.

First off, I ate at Olive Garden today, and totally stuffed myself. I got the new Smoked Mozzarella Chicken, and I have only one word for you.

Sensuous.

That's how good it was.

10 out of 10, guys. If you like the sound of it, then you'll love the taste of it.

Second is the movie I just finished, House of Wax. I have mixed feelings about this one.

The plot was alright. And interesting idea, if nothing else. The thing was, I spent the whole time either laughing or cringing.

The dialogue scenes were hilariously mediocre. Cheesey, cliche script. Poor acting. The whole shabang.

The gory scenes were...well...GORY. I'm not one to flinch at most scenes of extreme violence, but somehow, peeling off the skin of an immobile man, or cutting off a fingertip with wire cutters, or even a pit full of roadkill are enough to give me the jibblies.

As is slicing up a heel, impaling a head on a pipe, tearing off someone's face, etc.

Personally, I give it a 4 out of 10. It seemed like they sacrificed the plot just to throw in excessive amounts of gore.

Ah, well.

And the scared girl says, "I understand you! You're not a freak, he is! Oh my god, please don't kill me!"

Happy Birthyear to Me!

W00t! 1987 hits!! Un-friggin' believable!

Okay, so it's totally believable. Still.

This post is to commemorate a year that changed the world as we know it. The year of the Rabbit. The year...

OF CHRISTOPHOLES!!

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana, there was U2, and Blondie, and music still on MTV...

198....7.

Almost two decades ago. Man, everyone sounds older when you measure their age in decades...

So anyways...yeah. To all you folks out there who were likewise born in '87, I salute you! Feel proud that you were privileged enough to share a birth year with me!

To everyone else...sorry you missed out.

And the legal adult says, "Hey little girl. Do you want to know....a secret?"
